H.O.T. Summer Experience Health Careers Honors Program

What is H.O.T.?

Health Occupations Today is a summer residential program in Hibbing designed to help 8th and 9th grade students learn how to pursue a health care career. 

When is H.O.T.?

Applications will be available for download on this page once this announcement has been made.

Who should attend H.O.T.?

Students in 8th and 9th grade and have at least a 3.0 grade point average are eligible.  Students from rural communities, particularly ethnic minority students, who have an interest in a health career will be accepted into the program based on their letters of recommendation and application.

What does H.O.T. cost?

The program cost is $25.00 per student.

What will I do at H.O.T.?

You will participate with medical, nursing, dental and allied health faculty and  students from the University of Minnesota and Hibbing Community College to learn more about careers in health care.  There will be several hands-on activities in research laboratories, surgery, the dental lab and opportunity to gain information about health career programs within Minnesota.

Applications and references must be complete in order to be accepted.  Use this checklist to make sure you have completed your application packet:

  • Application
  • References (2 required) (1 must be from a current teacher or counselor)
